(Comment from a BBN reader) Russia’s energy giant Gazprom has signed a .5bn deal with Nigeria’s state operated NNPC, to invest in a new joint venture called... Nigaz. Surely, the Russians are having a laugh. In all fairness, I asked a Nigerian friend to read the name of the company, and she innocently pronounced the name 'nye-gass". I pointed out that she and other Nigerians might see "nye-gass" but the rest of us on the planet see "niggaz". Sadly. Come on, now. NO ONE in Nigeria saw this coming???? The rest of the world is talking about it. Some laughing. They should have known better. Reuters quotes one Nigerian man dismissing the global chatter, "As long as the Russians pay us, they can call it what they like." The man above asked not to be named, presumably so countless folk wouldn't descend on Lagos to find him and slap him!
