In May of 2007 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the drug Lybrel, the birth-control pill that ELIMINATES a woman’s period. Unlike the current, popular birth control pill that’s been on the market for decades, this new pill eliminates a woman’s period so that she never gets it. This month that pill goes on the market. But is this never-have-a-period-again pill a good idea for women? A period is, after all, part of the female DNA; it is who you are as much as your breast, vagina, uterus, eyes, nose, hair. A period is how you determine if you’re pregnant – or not. It’s how you know you’ve reached puberty or entered menopause. Is the once a month inconvenience and discomfort so bad that women should take a hu/man-made pill that will completely reverse nature?
