“Too Black” People Need Not Audition for “A Reality-Show Clogged Network.” Hmm…Which Network Could It Be?

January 30, 2008 by editor

This blind item appeared in the Jan. 29th edition of the New York Daily News under Columnist Ben Widdicombe’s page headline “Don’t Shoot The Messenger.” Here is the blind item: “Which reality-show clogged network had to change its casting procedures after a racist internal policy was leaked? Producers had an informal ban on considering cast members who were ‘too black.’ They claimed it was because darker skin tones were hard to pick up on camera.” (BBN Editors guess the guilty network to be none other than VHI. We can't think of any other network that is "Reality-Show Clogged." What Say You BBN Members?)

I wanna think vh1 because they air the most reality TV? But when i think of Flavor Flav? he is a pretty darn Black to me? So that rules out vh1. Then my next thought is this Ben dude trying to stir up controversy? Scared people would hid behind a blind item or a Don't shoot...I am leaning more towards the later. T WHY...

No it's MTV! Most of the people the black people on MTV's reality series are bi-racial and the usually the darker hued blacks are kicked off the earliest. They have a history of not having very dark skinned, or too pastey of a white person on their shows. Then the camera doesn't have trouble balancing out the extreme skin tones that would be in one shot or scene. But we have HD now that can handle the extremes a lot better because the range of colors and shades it can distinguish between is greater. So now what's the problem. Tradition?
