Mariana Ruiz Firmat is a freelance writer living in Brooklyn, New York. She has worked as a union organizer for the past three years and is interested in writing about labor struggles in black and brown communities. She has published non-fiction and poetry with Make-Shift Magazine, Alternet.org, 6X6 Magazine, IXNAY Magazine and Tool Magazine. Her chapbook, Another Strange Island, was published by Open 24 Hours Press. Mariana is a Cuban American who grew up in Los Angeles and is excited about the upcoming Democratic National Convention. Chad U. Jones is a writer, editor, organizer and donor advisor. He is a Fellow at the Association of Black Foundation Executives, and was a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs in pre-9/11 New York. He has worked as a White House intern, union organizer, and in a domestic violence shelter. Chad studied Economics and History at Macalester College and the University of Colorado. He has lived in Harlem, Denver, New Mexico, Virginia, Kenya, Guatemala and Swaziland. He lives in Brooklyn, New York with his partner. Read what Chad has to say.
