who are the Technology and Energy Sectors in the Stimulus

February 11, 2009 by Chad Jones, Contributor (View Source

What a busy and fascinating week. To think that the Senate put in work on Saturday, along with Monday Tuesday and today -- suggests that each day constitutued approximately 0B of plans, pledges and line items in the economic stimulus package.

Since first reading an article in early December, there were five areas that the Obama Transition Team had in mind: Health, Education, Energy and programs for the Poor (aka Working Class).

As I read an article this morning, "Technology's Fingerprints on the Stimulus Bill", I wondered who are these folks sizing up the windfall for themselves, and the associations doing so for their members.

A list of three mentioned in this New York Times article are:

  • Information Technology Industry Council
  • Edison Electrical Institute
  • Geothermal Industry Association

The ITIC is a whos-who of corporate computing, software, and networking corporations: eBay, IBM, Accenture, Lenove and dozens more.
The EEI website has a tagline of: 'The Association of Shareholder-Owned Electric Companies' and includes Xcel Energy and Southern Power among others.
Finally, the Geothermals are (seemingly) a much smaller entities with names such as Nevada Geothermal Power and Terra-Gen Power LLC.

We'll see how much more familiar these associations and market sectors become thanks to the federal cash infusion.
